I got a phone call at 3:15 yesterday from my friend, Audrey. "IF YOU CAN GET TO FRED MEYER'S BAKERY BEFORE 4:00 P.M., THE KIDS CAN DECORATE THEIR OWN FATHER'S DAY CAKES FOR ONLY $2.99!!!" Audrey's daughter, Mikayla was already there with her working on her cake. You have never seen me get the kids ready & out the door so fast! On route, I called my friend, Lara to tell her about this fun opportunity. (I must admit that I waited until I was halfway there, as the event was good until they ran out of cakes & there were only 9 cakes left at the time Audrey called me!) Lara has 4 kids, but she made it there in record time too. The kids were able to completely accessorize their own 8' round cake for "Daddy" using frosting, sprinkles & an array of different embellishments, such as little signs that said "#1 Dad" or "Go Daddy!" We found out this is a tradition that the bakery does ONLY for Mother's Day and Father's Day. I did not let Nathan do HIS own cake, as that could have had disastrous results! He will have to wait until next year & then he can do a cake for mommy. :o)

So the truth comes out...you didn't call me until you were 1/2 way there, hu? Just kidding! Thanks for including us! The kids had a blast. I think we've found a new tradition too!
They looked as though they were having a great time. Such creativity. Isn't it about time Fred Meyers had a ' Back a cake for Granpa' Day ?!!
What a clever idea! I bet that was so much fun for the kids:)
